Print.prn File
I am working with 2.0 .Net framework.
I am trying to build a class, within a C# class library, which will programmatically read binary data (images) from a database table and then print the images on one or more pages. But, instead of printing directly to a printer I want the 'print out' to be saved to a file.
This functionality is synonymous to enabling the 'Print to file' feature, which is present on most Windows print dialog boxes, and then initiating the print job.
I have been trying to use the System.Drawing.Printing namespace. More importantly,
I have been trying to use the PrintDocument class. Yet, a reference in MSDN has indicated that this namespace is designed for Window form development --- it does not mention any consequences about using it in a class within a class library.
The snippet code shows what I have done so far. I have developed a test harness which consumes this class and calls its print method. As soon as the PrintDocument object's Print() method is called I get the following error (accompanied by the usual ASP.Net stack trace)
The handle is invalid.
I am concluding that since I am not in a Windows form environment a handle can not be found.
Can I use the PrintDocument consumed by a class within a class library?
If not, which namespace could I use which will 'Print to file'?
Can I use the 'Print to file' feature to generate a print file (.prn) programmatically?
Can anyone point me to sample code which I can reference?
Thanks
